Team Canada is believed to be interested in adding defenceman Colton Parayko, now that his St. Louis Blues have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Dreger adds that since Parayko is a pending restricted free agent, contract insurance will have to be discussed before he joins the team.
The 23-year-old Parayko finished last season with four goals and 31 assists in 81 games for the Blues in the regular season while adding another two goals and three assists in 11 postseason games.
The Blues lost in six games to the Nashville Predators in the second round of the playoffs.
Russian head coach Oleg Znarok said Monday Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko will not join Team Russia at the tournament due to injury.
According to Znarok, Tarasenko's agent said the Blues sniper played through an injury during the postseason and is set to undergo surgery. He did not say where Tarasenko was injured.
The 25-year-old scored three goals and added three assists in 11 playoff games. He scored 39 goals and tallied 75 points in 82 games during the regular season.
