The Chicago Cubs bolstered their pitching staff on Thursday as they acquired Jesse Chavez from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Tyler Thomas.

Chavez appeared in 30 games this season for the Cubs, all out of the bullpen, and posted a 3-1 record with a 3.51 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 56.1 innings.

The 34-year-old made 21 starts for the Los Angeles Angels in 2017 and pitched to a 7-11 record with a 5.35 ERA.

Chavez was selected in the 42nd round of the 2002 MLB Amateur Draft by the Rangers and made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2008.

He has also appeared with the Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers over the course of his 11-year MLB career.
