PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed pitcher Archie Bradley on the 15-day disabled list with a sinus fracture in the right side of his face Wednesday, the result of being struck with a batted ball in the second inning of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

Bradley was taken to a Phoenix hospital for further tests after leaving the game in the second inning. He was able to stand up and walk off the mound, and later rejoin his teammates for the last moments of their 12-5 win over the Rockies.

The tests initially revealed sinus damage and Bradley also had swelling above his jaw. Manager Chip Hale said after the game that a disabled list designation was likely, and on Wednesday the club called up reliever Enrique Burgos from Double-A Mobile to take Bradley's place on the roster.

Bradley feels he will be back as soon as the 15 days is up.

"I think I'm going to take a couple of days off and then try to get back into it," Bradley said. "Once the swelling goes down I can get back into strenuous activity."

Bradley said Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who hit the ball, texted Bradley to tell him he was praying for him.

"It just thought it was a really classy move for him to reach out to me," Bradley said.

Bradley also heard from Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout and former NFL linebacker Brian Bosworth, both offering encouragement.
