SAN DIEGO - The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired shortstop Ronald Torreyes in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday and designated second baseman Darwin Barney for assignment.

Torreyes, 22, was acquired for cash considerations. Torreyes, assigned to Double-A Tulsa, is a career .299 hitter in the minor leagues, where he is spending his sixth season.

Barney, who was signed by the Dodgers to a one-year, $2.5 million contract in December, played in just two games this season and was 0 for 4. He is a career .245 hitter and won a Gold Glove with the Chicago Cubs in 2012.
