Recently retired quarterback Darian Durant would consider coming out of retirement to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, according to TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor.

The report comes on the heels of Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea announcing starter Matt Nichols is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a knee injury sustained in training camp practice Wednesday.

Durant signed with the Bombers this off-season but retired last month before training camp opened.

Bombers general manager Kyle Walters said at the time the team learned of Durant’s decision to retire from a statement posted on his website.

"We were informed prior to the start of our mini-camp that Darian Durant, along with his family, was reconsidering continuing his career," Walters said in a statement. "Given the magnitude of this decision, we asked him to take the time to thoroughly consider his options and inform us of his decision.

"Ultimately, Darian has not informed the team of his decision, but we were notified through social media this morning that he has decided to retire from professional football. While we respect his decision, we are of course are extremely disappointed.

Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press also reported at the time the Bombers asked Durant to return his $70,000 signing bonus but Durant said no.

After 11 seasons with the Bombers’ rival Saskatchewan Roughriders, Durant spent last season with the Montreal Alouettes. The 35-year-old finished with 3,233 passing yards and 15 touchdowns to 16 interceptions in 15 games with the Als.
