Boston Bruins
David Backes is a healthy scratch up front and Jake DeBrusk and Chris Wagner will play, Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said Wednesday in his pregame update.
Peter Cehlarik will also play tonight against the St. Louis Blues. John Moore and Steven Kampfer are out on defence.
Backes has four goals and 12 points with a minus-6 rating in 38 games with the Bruins this season. He is signed through the 2020-21 season at a $4 million cap hit.
Cassidy called the conversation he had with Backes about the move to be "one of the more difficult ones" he's had as a coach.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The slumping Toronto Maple Leafs reunited last season's trio of Zach Hyman, Auston Matthews and William Nylander on Wendesday at practice.
Andreas Johnsson, who was previously on a line with Matthews and Kasperi Kapanen, replaced Hyman on a line with John Tavares and Mitch Marner, while Kapanen moved to a line with Patrick Marleau and Nazem Kadri.
Babcock would not commit to keeping the lines from Wednesday together when the Maple Leafs visit the Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.
"I don’t know what I’m doing tomorrow. How’s that? But we took a look at it today," Babcock said, per the Toronto Sun.
