The Cleveland Indians designated veteran outfielder Melky Cabrera for assignment and activated outfielder Brandon Guyer from the 10-day disabled list on Thursday. 

The 33-year-old has struggled in his first season with in Cleveland, hitting .207 with 11 RBIs and no home runs over 17 games. Cabrera signed with the Indians in late April. 

Last season he hit .285 with 17 homers and 85 RBIs over 156 games with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. 

Cabrera played two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2013 and 2014.

The Indians sit first in the American League Central with a 35-31 record.
