Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez left with a bruised right index finger after one inning Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels.

X-rays came back negative. Joe Biagini took his spot on the mound to start the second inning.

Sanchez allowed two first-inning runs, one scoring on a wild pitch and the other scoring on an RBI single by first baseman Albert Pujols. He threw 20 pitches in the inning.

The 25-year-old missed almost the entire 2017 season while battling a blister on his pitching hand and the removal of part of the nail on his index finger. Sanchez made just eight starts and landed on the disabled list four separate times before being officially shut down for the season in September. In 36 innings, he had a record of 1-3 with an ERA of 4.25, just one season after going 15-2 with an ERA of 3.00.

Sanchez is 3-5 so far this season with an ERA of 4.35 in 14 starts. The Blue Jays entered play Thursday sitting at 34-39, good for third place in the American League East behind the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

They will continue their four-game series with the Angels in Anaheim Friday.
