Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane will be sidelined for two weeks with what the team is calling a lower-body injury.

The 23-year-old will be re-evaluated at that point to better assess the injury.

Kane collided knee-on-knee with teammate Mark Scheifele early in the first period of Thursday's 6-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes. He was assisted off the ice by Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler favouring his right leg.

The Vancouver native appeared in 63 contests for the Jets last season, felled by significant injury twice. He missed six games with a lower-body injury incurred in late November and then 10 more with a hand injury that became infected into the new year.

In those 63 games, Kane posted 19 goals and 22 assists.

The Jets are on the road for a weekend trip to California with a game against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday and a date with the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.
