Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard played in his 500th Premier League match but it ended in disappointment, with Jordon Ibe coming closest to snatching victory for the team in the 62nd minute when his deflected shot struck the crossbar.
The Reds are fifth, six points behind Manchester City ahead of the champions' match against Aston Villa later Saturday.
Mario Balotelli started his first Premier League game since November, but was ineffective before being replaced after 75 minutes.
