The drought is over for Connor McDavid.

The Edmonton captain ended a 10-game goalless streak with his first career hat trick in a 5-2 win over Dallas Stars on Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Texas.

McDavid received a pass from Jesse Puljujarvi ahead of the left faceoff circle in the offensive zone and carried the puck wide before throwing a hard cross-ice pass off the stick of Stars defencemen John Klingberg and into the net to open the scoring at 2:57 of the first period. His first goal in 10 games did not register as a shot.

He added his second of the game by banging in a loose puck in the crease at 6:17 of the second period.

Dallas clawed back with two straight goals late in the second period to bring the deficit within two before McDavid struck again. He corralled a long rebound off a Puljujarvi slap shot and wristed home his third of the night at 6:51 of the final frame.

Despite the scoring slump, McDavid has continued to facilitate his teammates with seven assists in his last 10 games. He has eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 18 games to kick off his sophomore season.
