NFL Power Rankings - September 25, 2014

A new team on top, the Lions, Chargers, Falcons, Chiefs and Colts move up while the Packers, Panthers, Dolphins and Buccaneers drop in the TSN.ca NFL Power Rankings.

Tennessee Titans v Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals, one of just three unbeaten teams remaining in the league, have taken over top spot in the TSN.ca NFL Power Rankings.

After routing the Tennessee Titans, the Bengals have the league's best scoring differential and are relatively healthy, and that has landed them in top spot.

Among the teams on the rise this week, the Detroit Lions jump from 10 to five after shutting down the Green Bay Packers and the San Diego Chargers continued to build momentum with a road win in Buffalo, earning a bump from 11 to seven.

After a monster blowout win last Thursday, the Atlanta Falcons rise from 19 to 14.

A couple of teams that picked up their first wins, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts, rise five spots apiece, to 22 and 23, respectively.

There were a few mirror image falls in the rankings this weeks too. As the Lions climb, the Packers drop, going from seven to 11, and the Miami Dolphins, beaten by the Chiefs, sink from 21 to 25. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on the receiving end of that beating from Atlanta, go from 26 down to 30.

A tough home loss against Pittsburgh cost the Carolina Panthers a spot in the Top 10, going from eight to 13.

A premier wide receiver, a pair of productive backs and a sturdy defence means the Bengals don't need anything spectacular out of QB Andy Dalton. In fact, Cincinnati can apparently send him out on pass routes, as he caught an 18-yard touchdown to really start the rout against Tennessee.

It's getting kind of ridiculous, as the Eagles have become the first team in NFL history to overcome double-digit deficits to win each of their first three games in a season, but the explosiveness of this offence is a big reason why they remain unbeaten. Teams that get the lead can't pull away and leave the Eagles behind.

It's early, but the Lions' defence could be a real difference-maker. Since the offence is already a potent enough beast, with weapons throughout, the Lions can be good with an average defence, let alone one allowing 24 yards per game fewer than any other team through the first three weeks.

Questions are creeping up about whether QB Tom Brady is simply declining, especially after the Patriots struggled to move the ball at home against Oakland. The good news for the Pats is that they have a formidable defence, which is giving them some time to figure out what they need to do in order to be better offensively.

It was on the road, but losing to Arizona, and backup QB Drew Stanton, was a bad result for the Niners. The trouble was getting anything going in the ground game, as Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde combined for 23 yards on nine carries, making it difficult to make a 14-6 halftime lead stand up.

QB Drew Stanton was terrific against San Francisco, which adds some credibility, but the other story of the day for the Cardinals was how their defence locked down on the 49ers after a couple of early scoring drives, allowing a total of 133 yards on the Niners' last six possessions, after giving up 160 on the first two.
