The Edmonton Oilers announced Tuesday that they have agreed to terms with defenceman Matt Benning on a two-year contract extension. Benning was in line to become a restricted free agent as of July 1.

Benning, 24, posted six goals and 15 assists for the Oilers this past season, which was his second in the NHL. In 135 career appearances with Edmonton, Benning has complied 36 points (9G, 27A).

Originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 draft (175th overall) by the Boston Bruins, Benning signed with the Oilers as an unsigned drafted free agent in August of 2016.
