The Edmonton Oilers have signed Massachusetts Lowell forward Joseph Gambardella to a a two-year, entry-level deal that goes into effect for the 2017-18 season.

In 41 games for the River Hawks this season, the native of Staten Island, New York tallied 18 goals and 31 assists as a senior.

Gambardella became the River Hawks' first ever Walter Brown Award recipient, given to New England's top American-born Division 1 player. The previous two winners of the award were New York Rangers forward Jimmy Vesey (in consecutive years at Harvard) and Calgary Flames star Johnny Gaudreau (Boston College). Brian Gionta, Mike Grier and Chris Drury are other previous recipients of the honour.

Gambardella, 23, appeared in 150 games over four seasons for the RiverHawks, notching 47 goals and 82 assists.
