Host-nation Sweden has defeated Russia 4-3 to capture the under-18 IIHF World Championship behind a hat trick from Lucas Raymond.

Simon Holmstrom had the other goal for Sweden in the victory, who earned a berth in the final with a win over Canada in the semis.

It wasn't without controversy, however. Russia thought they have the go-ahead goal late in the third period but a lengthy review determined that a shot from Vasili Podkolzin did not cross the line. If allowed Russia would've taken a 4-3 lead with just over three minutes remaining.

Earlier on Sunday, the Americans beat Canada for the bronze medal behind three goals from Jack Hughes.
