The Los Angeles Angels have contacted Major League Baseball over public comments made by Bryce Harper recruiting Mike Trout to Philadelphia, which could be viewed as a violation of the league's tampering rules, according to Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reports there isn't any significant discipline expected to be levied against Harper, adding that he could face a fine. Considering Harper just signed a 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies, he would probably be able to pay up if MLB proceeds with a financial penalty.

Angels general manager Billy Eppler confirmed that the club has been in contact with MLB in a text to the LA Times.

"If you don't think I'm going to call Mike Trout to come to Philly in 2020, you're crazy,” Harper said of Trout's looming free agency Tuesday on SportsRadio 94WIP.

"For me, I can be able to talk to Trout, or whoever it is, big-name free agent or whoever wants to come to Philly or is thinking about coming to Philly, I can say 'Hey, this is the place to be. This is where the fans are great, ownership understands it, our manager is awesome.’”

Angels owner Arte Moreno has indicated on multiple occasions that the club is focused on re-signing the two-time American League Most Valuable Player. Trout, 27, is a native of nearby Millville, N.J. Trout attended the Phillies' World Series victory parade in 2008 as a 17-year-old and has season tickets for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

MLB has tampering rules that prevent players from recruiting other players while still under contract with other teams. Torres notes that the league has reprimanded players for enticing players to join their teams in the past, such as Boston's David Ortiz receiving a warning letter for publicly lobbying the team to sign pending free agent Edwin Encarnacion in 2016. The New York Yankees also warned outfielder Aaron Judge after he said Manny Machado would "look good in pinstripes."

Harper is expected to get into game action for the first time in a Phillies uniform over the weekend.
