Brooklyn is just fine for Travis Hamonic after all.
The New York Islanders defenceman has rescinded the trade request he made last fall to be closer to home, head coach Jack Capuano confirmed Tuesday.
A native of St. Malo, Manitoba, Hamonic was believed to have wanted a move to the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers or Calgary Flames.
His request was never facilitated and the 25-year-old played out the season with the Islanders. A six-year pro, Hamonic appeared in regular season games for the Islanders, notching five goals and 16 assists. He played in all 11 of the Islanders' playoff contests.
"I love being an Islander, more than anything," Hamonic told MSG following the team's elimination at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning over the weekend. "It’s one of the best things I do in my life."
Hamonic has four years remaining on a seven-year deal that carries an average annual value of $3.857 million.
