The Toronto Blue Jays were among the teams that attended a showcase on Thursday for free agent pitcher Doug Fister, reports SB Nation's Chris Cotillo.

An eight-year pro, Fister, 33, remains unsigned after going 12-13 with a 4.64 earned run average and a 1.425 WHIP over 32 starts and 180.1 innings pitched last season for the Houston Astros.

Along with the Jays, the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels had Fister throw for them on Thursday.

All five teams are in need of starting pitching help.

The Jays are currently without the services of Aaron Sanchez (fingernail) and J.A. Happ (elbow). Reliever Joe Biagini makes his first career start on Sunday with Mat Latos having been designated for assignment earlier this week.

Giants ace Madison Bumgarner isn't expected back until the All-Star break with a shoulder strain.

Starters Noah Syndergaard (lat), Steven Matz (elbow) and Seth Lugo (elbow) are all currently out of action for the New York Mets, along with Matt Harvey serving a three-game suspension.

The Diamondbacks lost Shelby Miller to season-ending Tommy John surgery, while the Angels need to fill holes left by the absences of Garrett Richards (biceps) and Tyler Skaggs (oblique).

A native of Merced, California, Fister has also spent time with the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals.
