The Carolina Panthers have released veteran safety Kurt Coleman, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport noted Coleman had a $5.25 million cap hit and his release will help the team clear cap space to get younger at the position.

The 29-year-old Coleman finished last year with 51 tackles and three pass defences in 12 games.

For his career, the 2010 seventh-rounder has 360 tackles and 21 interceptions in 116 games split between the Panthers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles.
