The Blue Jays avoided arbitration with a handful of notable players on Friday.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Blue Jays reached a $7.4 million contract with starter Marcus Stroman for 2019. Stroman, 27, had a 4-9 record in 2018 with a 5.54 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP - both of which were career-worsts.

Nightengale reported earlier Friday that the Jays reached a one-year, $6.3 million with Ken Giles, while Robert Murray of The Athletic reports the team settled on a one-year, $900,000 contract for Joe Biagini.

Giles, 28, was acquired last season as part of the deal that sent Roberto Osuna to the Houston Astros and recorded 14 saves in 21 games as the Jays' closer. He had no blown saves, though he had an 0-1 record with Toronto while posting a 4.12 ERA in 19 2/3 innings.

Biagini, also 28, had a 4-7 record in 2018 in 50 games while making four starts. He posted a career-worst 6.00 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. He moved from the bullpen to a starting role in 2017 and posted a 3-13 record over 18 starts with a 5.34 ERA. He moved back to a relief role last season.

Biagini had a breakout rookie season as a reliever with the Jays in 2016, posting a 3.06 ERA over 67 2/3 innings.
