The Oakland Athletics have traded utility man Ben Zobrist to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for highly-touted pitching prospect Sean Manaea and 25-year-old righty Aaron Brooks.

Valued for his versatility, the 34-year-old has started games at second base, right and left fields for the A’s this season, posting a .268 batting average with six home runs and 33 runs batted-in.

Acquired this past off-season from the Tampa Bay Rays, Zobrist is eligible for free agency this coming winter.

He spent nine years with the (Devil) Rays organization prior to joining Oakland, earning All-Star selections in 2009 and 2013.

While Zobrist has appeared in six post-season series, his raw offensive numbers are meager. In 21 career playoff games, Zobrist has hit just .212 with four extra-base hits and three RBI. He was a member of the Rays 2008 American League Champion squad.
