The Ottawa Senators made two picks in quick succession to answer a need at the back and one down the middle

With the 18th pick in the draft, the team selected defenceman Thomas Chabot from the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before taking centre Colin White from the US Under-18 team in the USHL.

Chabot had 12 goals and 29 assists in 66 games last season to lead all Sea Dogs defencemen in scoring.

The native of Saint-Marie, Quebec also represented Canada internationally this year, winning a bronze medal at the under-18 World Junior Championship. Chabot tallied a goal and four assists in seven games.

White, a Boston native, was a point-a-game player last season with 23 goals and 21 assists in 54 games. His campaign was cut short with a wrist injury and a bout of mononucleosis.

The 18-year-old scored the gold medal-clinching goal in overtime at the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championship for the Americans.
