SAN JOSE, Calif. — Spencer Martin turned away 27 shots to lead the Abbotsford Canucks to a 5-1 victory over the San Jose Barracuda in the American Hockey League Sunday afternoon.

The Canucks (8-7-3) have won two in a row and four of their past five games to gain ground in the Pacific Division.

Sheldon Rempal scored one and assisted another for Abbotsford. Vincent Arseneau, Phil Di Giuseppe, Justin Bailey and Tristen Nielsen also scored. Madison Bowey and Nic Petan had two helpers each.

The Canucks led 4-0 in the second period when Adam Raska found the back of the net for the division-worst Barracuda (6-11-1). It was Raska's first goal of the season.

Goalie Zachary Sawchenko was beaten five times on 17 shots. Alexei Melnichuk stopped all six shots in relief.

Abbotsford was 1 for 2 with the man advantage while San Jose failed to capitalize on its four power-play opportunities.

It was the first contest in six days for the Canucks, which last played on Dec 5. – a 5-2 win over the Barracuda.
