Oakville OCT Fall Classic in Oakville, Ont.

Former world junior curling champion Kyle Smith is having a good start to the 2016-17 season. The 24-year-old skip from Stirling, Scotland and his foursome of third Thomas Muirhead, second Kyle Waddell and lead Cammy Smith went a perfect 7-0 this past weekend in Oakville to capture the OCT Fall Classic. 

Smith beat American Heath McCormick in the final, 7-2.

The large 25-rink field included noticeable names such as John Epping (3-1, failed to make playoffs), Jason Gunnlaugson (lost to McCormick in the quarters) and Mark Kean (2-2, failed to make playoffs).

This was only the second year of the OCT Fall Classic as Codey Maus won it last season. 

 

Women's Tour

Oakville OCT Fall Classic in Oakville, Ont.

Purse: $13,000

Another European rink, Team Anna Hasselborg of Sweden were also victorious in Oakville this weekend. Her rink of third Sara McManus, second Agnes Knochenhauer and lead Sofia Mabergs went a perfect 7-0, beating the likes of Northern Ontario's Tracy Fleury in the quarterfinals, Chrissy Cadorin in the semis and 19-year-old Isabella Wrana of Sweden in the championship game, 6-2.

This is the second year the 27-year-old Hasselborg has skipped this foursome and their first event win. 

The 18-rink field featured the likes of Allison Flaxey (lost in quarters), Julie Hastings (2-2, failed to make playoffs), Jamie Sinclair (lost in semis) and Fleury.

Jacqueline Harrison won the event last year.
