The Toronto Blue Jays released their 25-man Opening Day roster on Thursday ahead of their clash with the New York Yankees in the afternoon. Notable in the release was the news that shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has been moved to the 60-day disabled list with bilateral heel bone spurs.

Along with Tulowitzki, outfielders Anthony Alford (hamstring) and Dalton Pompey (wrist) were placed on the 10-day DL, retroactive to March 26.

In selecting the contracts of John Axford and Tyler Clippard to the major-league roster, the team optioned pitchers Joe Biagini and Tim Mayza, as well as outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Pitcher Sam Moll, claimed off waivers last week from the Seattle Mariners, was designated for assignment.

The Jays signed Canadian reliever Axford, 34, last month after appearing in just 22 games with the Oakland Athletics in 2017 where he had a 6.43 ERA over 21 innings.

Clippard, 33, posted a 2-8 record with a 4.77 ERA over 60.1 innings with the Yankees, Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros last season.
