One day after acquiring him from the Montreal Canadiens, the Winnipeg Jets have placed goaltender Peter Budaj on waivers.

It was expected Budaj would take over the backup role behind starter Ondrej Pavelec but according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the Jets were happy with their two goalies in camp and acquired Budaj for depth, assuming he clears waivers.

Michael Hutchinson will start the season as Pavelec's backup.

The Jets acquired Budaj and Patrick Holland for Eric Tangradi Sunday.
