TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Canada's ride at the 2022 CONCACAF Under-20 men's soccer championship is over, but not without a great fight.

Canada lost 4-3 on penalty kicks to Guatemala in Sunday's round of 16.

Scoreless through 90 minutes, Kamron Habibullah scored from the penalty spot in the 100th minute for Canada, but then Guatemala’s Omar Villagran scored in the 120th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Guatemala then advanced to the quarterfinals through kicks.

Canada finished the competitive tournament with one win, two draws and one loss.

Canada’s goal scorers through the competition were Lowell Wright (two), Tiago Coimbra, Matthew Catavolo and Habibullah.

In the round of 16, goalkeepers Jorge Moreno (Guatemala) and Ben Alexander both saved penalty attempts in the first half.
