The Toronto Blue Jays received good news and bad news on the injury front Friday.

The good news is Justin Smoak is expected to miss only one game with a wrist injury. The bad news is centre fielder Anthony Alford has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain and will be sidelined for three-to-six weeks.

Alford, 23, has 10 hits in 31 at-bats this spring (.323 average) with one home run and five RBI. He appeared in just four games for the Blue Jays last season, hitting .125. He spent the majority of the 2017 season with Double-A New Hampshire, hitting .310 with five home runs and 24 RBI. Despite his hot spring, Alford was expected to start the season at AAA Buffalo.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons announced Friday that Smoak is dealing with a wrist sprain and did not join the team for the trip to Fort Myers on Thursday. Smoak will miss Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies but, according to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun, he's expected to return to the lineup on Saturday.

The first baseman has five hits in 24 at-bats this spring - a .208 average - with three RBI. He put together a career season in 2017, hitting .270 with 38 home runs and 90 RBI.

Blue Jays stars Marcus Stroman, Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki have dealt with injuries this spring. Donaldson is set to play Friday after dealing with calf cramps and Stroman is expected to make his spring debut on Saturday.
