Shawn Matthias's season is over.

Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice announced on Saturday that the 29-year-old centre will undergo surgery for a torn labrum and miss the remainder of the season.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Matthias has eight goals and four assists in 45 games this season, his first with the Jets. He's been out of action since missing practice last Wednesday.

Originally taken by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the National Hockey League Entry Draft out of the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League, Matthias has appeared in 524 NHL games over 11 seasons with the Forida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and Jets.

His best year statistically came in 2014-15 as a member of the Canucks when he notched 18 goals and nine assists in a career-high 78 games.
