USA Hockey announced on Monday that Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane would serve as team captain for the American entry at the 2018 IIHF World Championships, set to get underway next month in Denmark.

"We are thrilled to have Patrick as our captain," said team general manager Bill Zito. "His passion for the game and USA Hockey is second-to-none, and his participation makes us all proud."

This will mark the seventh time that kane has represented the United States internationally and second time at the worlds where he competed in 2008.

The Buffalo native was a member of the gold medal-winning entry at the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden and suited up for the U.S. at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics games, claiming a silver medal in the former.

Kane, 29, appeared in all 82 games for the Blackhawks this season, scoring 27 goals and adding 49 assists.
