University Place, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Phil Mickelson struggled again in Sunday's final round at the U.S. Open as he closed with a 3-over 73.

The six-time runner-up finished the year's second major championship at 13- over-par 293.

"I enjoyed coming to Washington to play a major championship event. The people here appreciate the PGA Tour players and the U.S. Open and have really supported it," Mickelson said. "It was fun to play here. The community helped run a really first-class event, and I wish I had played better."

Mickelson, who turned 45 earlier in the week, dropped a shot at the second, but came right back with a birdie on No. 3. After a pair of pars, he tripped to a bogey at the sixth. Mickelson atoned for that error with a birdie at eight.

The five-time major champion carded his third bogey of the day at the 10th. He drove the green at the short par-4 12th and 2-putted for birdie to get back to even-par for his round.

However, Mickelson gave that right back as he bogeyed the 13th. He posted his final birdie of the day at No. 16. Mickelson missed the green at the 17th and played his second to 17 feet.

He 2-putted for bogey from there. At the par-5 closing hole, Mickelson found sand with his second shot. He blasted over the green, then went right under his next chip shot.

Mickelson's fifth stopped 19 feet from the hole and he 2-putted for a closing double-bogey.
