MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens have signed Victor Mete to a one-year, US $735,000 extension.

The 22-year-old Mete had four goals and seven assists in 51 games with the Canadiens last season.

The five-foot-nine, 183-pound native of Woodbridge, Ont., has four goals and 27 assists in 171 career games with Montreal.

Mete was a fourth-round pick (100th overall) by the Canadiens in the 2016 NHL draft.

The London Knights graduate helped Canada win gold at the 2018 world junior hockey championship.

The Canadiens also signed defenceman Xavier Ouellet to a two-year, two-way contract extension. The deal will pay Ouellet $725,000 in the NHL and $425,000 in the AHL for the first year, and $750,000 and $425,000 respectively the following season with a guaranteed salary of $475k in 2021-22.

The 27-year-old suited up for 12 games with Montreal in 2019-20 in the NHL, registering two assists. He skated in 10 playoff games in the NHL's Return to Play with the Habs, recording one assist.

A second-round pick (48th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings at the 2011 NHL Draft, Ouellet has five goals and 28 points in 172 career NHL games.
