The Edmonton Oilers are open to signing goaltender Cam Talbot to an extension, according to TSN Senior Hockey Reporter Frank Seravalli.

According to Seravalli, The Oilers and Talbot 'had a positive conversion' about the netminder's future. Edmonton recently signed goaltender Mikko Koskinen to a three-year $13.5 million contract extension which suggested Talbot's time in Edmonton could be coming to an end.

According to CapFriendly.com, the Oilers have approximately $51,371 in cap space and still have to activate defenceman Andrej Sekera from the long-term injured reserve.

Moving Talbot and his $4,166,667 cap hit before the trade deadline could provide Edmonton with some much-needed wiggle room.

Talbot is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
