Brad Marchand will not be punished for his actions late in Tuesday's Game 3 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The National Hockey League has reviewed Marchand's punch to the back of the head of an unsuspecting Scott Harrington at the final buzzer of Tuesday's Game 3 and determined there will be no supplemental discipline handed out.

The Athletic's Aaron Portzline points out that fines are not an option come playoff time as fine amounts are calculated based on number of days/games in the regular season. No mechanism currently exists to fine players during the playoffs.

The incident occurred with one minute left in the third period of the Blue Jackets' 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 3 after Sergei Bobrovsky froze the puck in the Columbus end. As officials broke up an ensuing scrum, Marchand appeared to punch Harrington while the Blue Jackets defenceman was on his knees. Marchand then skated away

Harrington was not injured on the play and Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella refused to comment on Marchand's actions post-game.

"I am not giving you my thoughts. I don't need to give any thoughts on that," Tortorella said. "You guys can come up with something there."

None of the on-ice officials appeared to see Marchand deliver the blow.

In 10 playoff games, Marchand has four goals and five assists.

Game 4 between the Jackets and Bruins will go Thursday night from Nationwide Arena in Columbus.
