There appears to be some fire to the smoke surrounding Russell Martin's potential return to Canada.

After a meeting with the Chicago Cubs on Friday, CBS Chicago reporter Bruce Levine reported that the free agent catcher and his agent have meetings lined up with three more teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 31-year-old Toronto native is viewed as one of the top free agent options behind the plate on the strength of a .290/.402/.430 slash line in 111 games last season. His on-base percentage was third best among National League hitters with at least 300 at-bats, trailing only Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki and his Pittsburgh Pirates teammate Andrew McCutchen.

Martin is coming off a two-year contract he signed with the Pirates prior to the 2013 season, worth a total of $15 million.

A three-time All-Star, Martin has posted a career .259 average with 119 home runs and 540 runs batted-in over 1163 games with the Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays still have one year remaining on the two-year, $8 million contract they handed to 2014 starting catcher Dioner Navarro prior to last season.
