Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook refuted media reports on Monday that suggested he had declined to waive his no-move clause ahead of the trade deadline.

"I haven’t been approached by anyone," Seabrook said Monday. "I don’t know where the reports are coming from.”

The 33-year-old has five seasons remaining on the eight-year, $55 million contract extension he signed with the team in 2015. He carries a $6.875 million cap hit on the deal and has a full no-move clause until 2022-23, when it drops to a modified no-trade for the final two years of the deal.

Seabrook has five goals and 20 points in 52 games this season while averaging 19:45 of ice time per game. The Blackhawks have won four straight games to climb within five points of a playoff spot and the veteran said Monday he's focused on the team's playoff push.

"I haven’t thought about it," Seabrook said of waiving his no-move clause. "I guess I’ll deal with that when that day comes. But my focus right now is to try to help this team get into the playoffs. That’s what I’m thinking about."

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reported last week that the Blackhawks are expected to approach fellow defenceman Duncan Keith about waiving his no-move clause this month.

Keith, 35, is signed through 2022-23 and said Friday he envisioned spending his entire career in Chicago when he signed his 13-year contract with the team in 2006.
