Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is collaborating with adidas on a highly limited run of sneakers, with 100 percent of proceeds going towards his Skyhook Foundation benefitting youth in Los Angeles.

The sneaker will be a custom version of the adidas Forum Low, taking design cues and even material use from Abdul-Jabbar’s No. 33 jersey with the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. Only 33 of the sneakers will be released.

The Kareem Abdul-Jabbar x adidas Forum Low will retail for US$1,000 and release on June 26 at Sneaker Con through NTWRK.

Known for his philanthropy and activism outside of sports, Abdul-Jabbar is a strong advocate for multiple social justice causes, including the Black Lives Matter movement. The NBA introduced its Social Justice Award in May, with the inaugural honour being awarded to Jrue Holiday.
