The question of who will face hometown fighter Darren Till in the main event of Fight Night Liverpool has finally been answered, as No. 1 ranked welterweight contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson has answered the call.

Thompson last was in the Octagon against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217 last November, where he earned a unanimous decision victory.

Prior to that win, Thompson was unsuccessful in two attempts to win the welterweight title from champion Tyron Woodley.  The pair fought to a majority draw at UFC 205, before Woodley earned a majority decision victory in the rematch at UFC 209.

The 35-year-old was riding a seven-fight winning streak into those title shots with some very impressive names on the list.  During the run that stretched from May 2013 to June of 2016, he earned wins over Nah-Shon Burrell, Chris Clements, current middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, Patrick Cote, Jake Ellenberger, Johny Hendricks and Rory MacDonald.

Till has yet to be defeated in his MMA career that has included 16 victories and one draw.

The Liverpool native has won his last three fights against Jessin Ayari, Bojan Velickovic and most recently against Donald Cerrone at Fight Night Gdansk last October.

The only fight where TIll did not leave with a win was against Nicolas Dalby, where the fight ended in a majority draw.

The UFC announced that they would be holding the May 27 event in Liverpool with Till in the main event slot in mid-march.

Earlier this week they added a bout between Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson as the co-main event for card that will take place at Echo Arena.
