Calgary Flames prospect Sam Bennett will undergo shoulder surgery next week and is expected to miss four to six months, the club announced on Thursday.

Bennett suffered the injury during the Flames' pre-season, but has also battled through shoulder issues much of last season with the Ontario Hockey League's Kingston Frontenacs.

The Flames drafted Bennett fourth overall in this year's NHL draft, making him the highest selection in franchise history.

The 18-year-old forward scored 36 goals and added 55 assists for 91 points in 57 games played with the Frontenacs in 2013-14.
