Toronto Maple Leafs forward prospect Miro Aaltonen is heading back to the KHL for the 2018-19 season, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

Dreger reports that Aaltonen's agent, Todd Diamond, has informed the Maple Leafs of his decision. 

The 25-year-old was a major part of the Toronto Marlies championship season in the American Hockey League, scoring 20 goals and 23 assists over 64 regular season games. He added four goals and nine helpers in 20 playoff games.  

The native of Finland spent the 2016-17 campaign in the KHL with Podolsk Vityaz, scoring 19 goals and 25 assists over 59 games. 

Toronto signed Aaltonen to a one-year, $925,000 entry level contract in March of 2017. 

Aaltonen was originally drafted in 2013 by the Anaheim Ducks in the sixth round
