MONTAGUE, P.E.I. - Suzanne Birt will skip Prince Edward Island at the Canadian women's curling championship after winning the provincial women's title Monday.

Birt defeated Kim Dolan 5-4 in the final at the Montague Curling Club.

She and third Robyn Green, second Meaghan Hughes and lead Marie Christianson will compete Feb. 20-28 in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Grande Prairie, Alta.

They join defending champion Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg and Yukon's Nicole Baldwin in the field. The rest of the teams will be determined in upcoming provincial and territorial championships.

The Scotties winner represents Canada at the world championship March 19-27 in Swift Current, Sask.

Birt, 34, will skip P.E.I. at the Scotties for the ninth time in her career. Her team finished 4-7 in the main draw last year in Moose Jaw, Sask.

Birt's best performance was in 2003 when her team went 10-1 in the preliminary round, but lost both playoff games and finished third.
