Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins sent first- round draft pick Kasperi Kapanen back to his Finnish team prior to the team's season opener against Anaheim on Thursday.

Kapanen, who was selected 22nd overall in June, will return to KalPa of Finland's premier professional league, Liiga.

Son of former NHL forward Sami Kapanen, who also plays for KalPa, the 18-year- old was ranked 39th on NHL.com's top 60 prospects list.

Pittsburgh also placed forward Beau Bennett on injured reserve. The 22-year- old is out with a lower-body injury that he sustained during practice on Sept. 27. He is expected to miss up to six weeks.

The Penguins recalled forwards Zach Sill and Andrew Ebbett and defenseman Taylor Chorney from Wheeling, the team's ECHL affiliate.
