The Ottawa Senators have agreed on a two-year contract extension with head coach Dave Cameron.

Cameron took over as the team's head coach after Paul MacLean was fired on Dec. 8. At the time of Cameron's appointment, the Senators were 11-11-5 and sat 11th in the Eastern Conference.

The Senators' season turned around under Cameron, the team posting a 32-15-8 record in 55 games and finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa lost in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, falling to the Montreal Canadiens in six games.

This is Cameron's first tenure as an NHL head coach. He has over a decade's experience coaching in the American and Ontario Hockey Leagues, including a three-year stint as coach of the Senators' AHL affiliate in Binghamton. He also coached the 2011 Canadian World Junior Championship squad that won silver in Buffalo.
