University of British Columbia defensive back Stavros Katsantonis, who recently tested positive for banned substance, Ligandrol (LGD 4033), opted out of the 2019 CFL Draft shortly before it was set to begin at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, according to TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor.
Katsantonis initially decided to remain in the draft upon learning that he had tested positive for the substance in April, opting to have his B sample tested for performance enhancing drugs. If his B sample tested positive, Katsantonis would face a year-long suspension handed down by the CFL.
According to TSN"s Farhan Lalji, because of his A sample, the CFL gave Katsantonis the option of having his suspension begin immediately with Katsantonis being allowed to go through the complete draft process again in 2020.
Katsantonis recorded 50 tackles, four interceptions and two pass breakups during his 2018 campaign with the University of British Columbia.
Fellow British Columbia defensive back Malcolm Lee, who also tested positive for Ligandrol in April, elected to remain in this year's draft and was subsequently drafted in the fifth round (46th overall) by the Calgary Stampeders.
