Highly touted Detroit Red Wings prospect Filip Zadina will make his National Hockey League debut on Sunday when the team hosts the San Jose Sharks in a matinee.

The sixth overall selection in the 2018 NHL Draft will be called up from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins at some point this weekend in time for the game.

In the AHL this season, the 19-year-old Zadina has 15 goals and 16 assists in 45 games.

“The thing I like about Filip, his game is fairly mature and it’s just a matter of continuing to be more dangerous," Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said on Friday.

While Zadina will play in the NHL, the plan is for the Pardubice, Czech Republic native to return to the AHL prior to hitting the 10-game mark and burning off the first year of his entry-level contract.

“We’d like him to be ready for the [AHL] playoffs and we’d love them to go on a big playoff run and he’d be a part of it," Blashill said.

The Griffins currently sit on 70 points atop the Central Division.
