Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Matt Niskanen has been suspended one game for cross-checking Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher in Game 5 on Wednesday.

The team confirmed on Thursday that Gallagher suffered a broken jaw that will require surgery, and he will miss the rest of the series..

No penalty was called on the play.

In a video explaining the suspension from the league's department of Player Safety, it was noted that Niskanen intended to hit Gallagher in the upper body, but contact to the head in particular happened when the Montreal player turned quickly into the cross-check.
