Andreas Athanasiou has signed a two-year, $6 million dollar deal with the Detroit Red Wings, with an AAV of $3 million.

The 23-year-old was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Athanasiou recorded 32 points for Detroit’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids before splitting his time in the 2015-16 season between Detroit and Grand Rapids.

In his first full year in Detroit, the London, Ont., native finished second on the team in scoring with 18 goals in 64 games played. He posted a career-best 33 points in 71 games in the 2017-18 season.

Athanasiou is coming off a one-year, $1.3875 million contract that supplanted his three-year entry-level contract after the 2016-17 season.
