The Dallas Stars were beneficiaries of the Anaheim Ducks' Game 7 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.

Since the Ducks reached the conference final round, the second-round pick the Stars acquired from the Ducks for Patrick Eaves in February was upgraded to a first-round selection in June.

Eaves, who was spotted on crutches before Game 7, did not play Wednesday night. The conditions of the trade stated that if Eaves played in 50 per cent of the Ducks' games in the first two rounds and the Ducks reached the Western Final, the Ducks would send their first-round pick to the Stars instead of a second-round acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Eaves has played in seven games of the Ducks' 11 games in the postseason, though he has not played since Game 3 on April 30.

The 33-year-old owns two goals and two assists in the playoffs. He scored 11 goals and added three assists in 20 after joining the Ducks. He posted a career-high 32 goals and 51 points in the regular season.

Playing on a one-year, $1 million contract, Eaves will be an unrestricted free agent this July.

The Ducks' first pick of the 2017 draft will be the San Jose Sharks' selection in the second round, acquired from Toronto.

The Stars moved up to the third overall pick in the draft lottery last month and will now pick again in the bottom four picks of the draft.
