The Anaheim Ducks lost again Tuesday night as they dropped their 12th consecutive game with a 3-1 loss to the Red Wings in Detroit. The winless streak is the longest in franchise history.

It’s been tough on all the players according to head coach Randy Carlyle, but one veteran is taking it especially hard.

“Hardest thing I’ve been though in my career by far,” Captain Ryan Getzlaf said via the Orange County Register. “Been through some tough years, but this one, having a stretch like this, I’ve never been through. It’s been really tough. I can give you every cliché in the book with the way things are going now.”

“We’ve had our meetings,” defenceman Jake Dotchin said. “I don’t know how many more we can really have, to be honest with you. We talk as players without the coaches. We talk with the coaches.”

The Ducks went into the third period leading 1-0 but allowed three goals in the period. Jakob Silfverberg (lower-body) and Ryan Kesler (undisclosed) also left the game early with injuries. Carlyle said he expects to know more about their status going forward on Wednesday.

“We got a one-goal lead going into the third period and we seemed to be running right out of gas. They came after us. They changed their lines up. They changed their game plan. We only had 10 forwards and we made some mistakes reading the rush,” Carlyle said.

“We need to create more chances, but it feels like we don’t have the confidence to beat the guy we are facing right now,” forward Rickard Rakell said. “We’re playing too much on the outside, which makes us easy to defend, and we’re always in a defensive mode, waiting for a mistake.”

Newly-acquired centre Devin Shore made his debut Tuesday night in Detroit and recorded a game-high four hits. Carlyle seems to be optimistic about his future with the club.

“He know his way around the rink and he makes some plays,” Carlyle said.

The Ducks will be back in action Thursday night in St. Paul when they take on the Minnesota Wild.
