Team Canada 2016 promises to be golden but will it be good enough to win the World Cup of Hockey?

One year out from the re-booted Toronto-based tournament, TSN Hockey is projecting 14 members of the 2014 Olympic champions will be on Team Canada – most prominent among them Sochi all-star goalie Carey Price and captain Sidney Crosby, who joined the Triple Gold Club last spring, when he added a World Championship gold to Olympic gold and a Stanley Cup.

Crosby and all-world goal-scorer Steven Stamkos, sidelined from the 2014 Olympics by a broken leg, could find themselves as linemates.

Others from the 2014 team projected to be on the 2016 team are defencemen Duncan Keith, Shea Weber, Drew Doughty, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and PK Subban, plus forwards Jonathan Toews, Jamie Benn, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Patrice Bergeron, John Tavares and Matt Duchene.

Missing from the Sochi gold team are goalies Roberto Luongo and Mike Smith, defencemen Alex Pietrangelo, Jay Bouwmeester and Dan Hamhuis, as well as forwards Jeff Carter, Rick Nash, Patrick Sharp, Patrick Marleau, Chris Kunitz and the retired Martin St. Louis.
